The Nightingale Affair, A Steamypunk Novella
My agent and I are looking at ebook publishers as the most likely market for my first novel. Before submitting my manuscript to agents, I tried to educate myself about the publishing industry. I did not learn anything about ebooks. Well, it turns out ebook sales are increasing at an alarming rate, and the majority of ebook sales are erotica.
So as an experiment and to stretch my literary muscles, I have decided to attempt to write an erotica novella. Because of my fondness for steampunk, I have set this story in a steampunk setting, with airships and skypirates and corsets and all the usual steampunk aesthetics.
I may never attempt to publish this torrid romp through the skies of England, or I might remove the tawdry bits and keep the underlying story. I don’t really know. But so far, it has been fun to write, and has kept my creative juices flowing as my other projects stutter and falter.
I will not post an excerpt here, other than the opening lines:
Emelia Lansdale met her first skypirate the day before her wedding. It was also the first time she dared disobey her father.
