Dear Editor:
Today, dear Reader, I would like to address the horrible tragedy that occurred last month a the Baynard-Philips mines. I speak, of course, of the explosion that has claimed the lives of eleven miners and will shut down production of coal from those mines for months, if not years.
The loss of life is truly tragic, and my heart goes out to the families of the workers who lives were lost, but the true tragedy is the economic and social impact.
The accident in question, is no doubt a direct result of government intervention in Capitalist affairs. Surely, it is in the best interest of the mine owners to invest in the best and safest equipment available. Men interested in making money will undoubtably wish to avoid expensive repairs and loss of productivity.
Our overly enthusiastic government, of which I have spoken before, insists on interfering by insisting that Industrialists purchase and use approved equipment, and follow the government’s ridiculous inspection schedules.
This interference on the part of our appointed government officials has directly led to bellow grade safety equipment.
Dear Reader, you can expect the price of coal to rise, and government profits from energy taxes to increase. There is only one clear answer to who expects to profit from such an accident. This is what happens when government interferes with what is clearly a self-regulating enterprise.
Sincerely,
Louis Barnard

His opinions are not those of this blog, its writer or anyone else who might be liable. This weeks entry is clearly satire, and good ol Louis often gets things completely backwards. Make of this what you will.
